High Protein Ranch Dip Made with Cottage Cheese
I am on a cottage cheese roll recently, incorporating it in various recipes to make them higher in protein. In the past couple of months, I've used it in my Cottage Cheese Mac and Cheese (so creamy and so easy!), this high-protein Tuna Spread, this High Protein Buffalo Chicken Dip and my lower-in-calories Cottage Cheese Egg Salad.
I love how versatile cottage cheese is and how perfect it works in both sweet and savory recipes. One of my sons loves cottage cheese mixed with halved red grapes as an after-school snack but recently he's been asking for it with fresh dill, salt, pepper and a touch of olive oil - that's one of my personal favorite snacks.
This easy cottage cheese dip recipe is what Ranch dreams are made of: it's savory, creamy, full of fresh herbs and garlic and perfect for snacking, especially with fresh cut up veggies.

What's to love about this recipe
- Made with simple ingredients
- High in protein (12 grams of protein per serving)
- Perfect as an easy appetizer or healthy snack
- Great dip for game day
- Creamy texture and tons of savory, tangy flavor

Ingredients and Substitutions
- Cottage Cheese: I like Good Culture but any cottage cheese will work.
- Ranch Seasoning: my favorite brand is Trader Joe's. Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning (or deressing mix) may be easier to find and will also taste great.
- Garlic and Lemon: fresh is best
- Fresh Herbs: I used dill and parsely. Chives will also work.
- Olive Oil: add a little oil for silky texture and additional flavor. If you prefer, you can add a little mayo instead.
- Extra Spices: if you want to add even mor flavor, season this healthy ranch dip with a little cracked black pepper, garlic powder or onion powder.
How to make Healthy Ranch Dip
Step 1: Blend Ingredients. In a small food processor or blender, combine cottage cheese, lemon juice, crushed garlic clove, olive oil, and Ranch seasoning (Image 1).
Step 2: Blend Until Smooth. Blend until smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed (Image 2).
Step 3: Add Herbs. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in the chopped parsley and dill until well combined (Images 3 & 4). Season to taste, if desired.
Serving suggestions
This high protein creamy dip pairs perfectly with:
- Crunchy fresh vegetables like carrot sticks, cucumbers, and bell peppers
- Pretzel sticks or pretzel chips for a satisfying crunch
- Your favorite crackers, cut up pita bread, tortilla chips or potato chips
Storage tips
To keep your High Protein Ranch Dip fresh and flavorful, store it in an airtight container (or a mason jar) in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Before serving leftovers, give the dip a quick stir to remix any separated ingredients. This dip is not suitable for freezing.
Recipe FAQs
What's the difference between ranch dressing and ranch dip?
Ranch dressing is a pourable condiment used for salads and as a dipping sauce, usually made with buttermilk and mayonnaise. Ranch dip, thicker and ideal for dipping, is made with a base of sour cream, Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese (like in this recipe), mixed with herbs and spices like garlic, dill, and Ranch seasoning.
Will cottage cheese blend completely smooth?
It may take some time and patience, but yes, it will blend to a smooth texture. For tips on how to do this, check out my Blended Cottage Cheese turorial. A good food processor or a high-speed blended will give you best results.
Yes, but the texture will be more curdy. If that's ok with you, just mix cottage cheese with Ranch seasoning, minced garlic, lemon juice and olive oil and skip the blending. Sometimes I do that when I'm short on time and don't want to have dishes to wash.
If you have fresh herbs, I'd definitely use them for best results. If all you have is dried, add 1 teaspoon dried parsley and 1 teaspoon dried dill in place of fresh.
