Course: dinner, lunch
Cuisine: Mediterranean, Middle Eastern
Servings: 2
Calories: 565kcal
- 2 pita breads
- 8 falafel balls or patties
- 6 oz cherry tomatoes halved
- 2 mini cucumbers roughly chopped
- 2 oz red onion thinly sliced
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 2 oz kalamata olives sliced, or mixed olives
Homemade Tzatziki Sauce
- ¼ cup finely grated cucumber squeezed on a paper towel
- ½ cup Greek yogurt 2% fat or full fat
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill chopped
- 1 small garlic clove minced
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
Make Tzatziki Sauce. Place grated cucumber in a paper towel or a clean cotton kitchen towel and squeeze over the sink to get rid of most of the moisture. Place the grated cucumbers in a small bowl and add Greek yogurt, fresh garlic, dill, olive oil, salt and pepper. Mix well and set aside.
Air fry or fry falafel patties so they are hot and golden brown. I recommend my easy air fryer falafel recipe but feel free to use whatever falafel you have. Warm up the pitas - I place them on a baking sheet and heat in the oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for a few minutes.
Spread some tzatziki sauce on each pita, add lettuce leaves, hot falafel patties, halved cherry tomatoes, chopped cucumbers and sliced red onions.
Fold together like a taco or a wrap and enjoy. You can also place it on a piece of parchment paper or tin foil so that ⅓ of it sticks out and wrap it tightly to make eating less messy.
Serve with more tzatziki sauce or any sauce that goes well with falafel (got sauce, tahini sauce, hummus etc).
Any pita bread will work for this recipe. I like Joseph's Flax and Oat Bran pitas because they're high in fiber.
If you don't want to make tzatziki (or don't have time), feel free to use good store bought kind. You can also replace it with other sauces that goes well with falafel.
The prep time for this recipe (15 minutes) does not include the time for preparing falafel patties.
Serving size is one falafel pita sandwich with tzatziki sauce.
